Calculation of band score in IELTS is not as same as other competitive or academic exams. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is one of the international tests to judge the capability of proficiency in the English Language. IELTS test has its own scoring system to judge the ability on the scale of 0-9 bands. Band score basically marks in layman’s terms. All the four modules or tests of IELTS, that is, reading, listening, writing, and speaking are scored from 0-9, where the higher band score is '9' and the lower one is '1'. A '0' band score is given to those candidates who did not appear in exams.

Band 4 | Limited user | Your basic competence is limited to familiar situations. You frequently show problems in understanding and expression. You are not able to use complex language. |

The above table lists the degree of your proficiency in the English language and you will be judged on the basis of the score obtained in the IELTS exam. The above table is listed down by IDP and BC itself.
The listening test in IELTS is conducted for about 40 minutes, where audio is played for 30 minutes and an extra 10 minutes of answers transfer time is given. A listening booklet contains 40 questions in total, answered from audio. These 40 questions are based on a monologue dialog and conversations.
Questions are of different types, that is, multiple-choice questions, fill-ups, diagram-based questions, map-related questions, etc.
Each question and answer will carry one mark. It means the whole of the listening test is 40 marks. You will get one mark for each right answer and the exciting thing is, there is no mark deduction for the wrong answers. That's why it is often suggested to the students to attempt all the questions.
