Some multiple choice questions require you to choose more than one answer from the given list of options. Candidates may be asked to choose more than one answer from 5, 4, or from 7 options. However, it is suggested to approach these questions in the same way that you would use for single answer questions.

Common Problems In Attempting these questions

Moving on to the common problems that students face while attempting these questions in IELTS listening exam.

1. All Options Seem Correct

You might face the problem of hearing about all of the three options given for the statement. Just because you heard the same or similar word, doesn’t mean that answer is correct. You cannot neglect the fact that only one of the given options is correct, so think and then choose.

2. Waiting for Exact Words

There might be a situation that the synonyms or rephrased version of the sentence are provided in the option but that doesn’t mean that answer is not correct. Don’t wait for the exact word to come while listening to the audio in order to find correct answers.

3. Similar Meaning of All Choices

All choices might sound similar in tone to you that makes it very difficult to choose the correct one from the given options. In that case, look for keywords or synonyms present in the option and relate it with the audio you heard that allows you to make a difference in options.

4. Focusing Too Much On Listening Only

This section is not about listening to the audio-only you have to be very alert while reading the options. With your reading skills, you can underline the keywords in the question and can relate to the correct answer between the options. So, listening and reading work simultaneously while attempting these types of questions.

Highlighting keywords helps in getting the correct answer for the given statement. Also, it helps in differentiating the meaning of different options. Always practice to mark keywords and synonyms given in the option.

▶️ Be Careful while transferring

As 10 extra minutes are provided in the IELTS listening exam for transferring answers on the answer sheet so be careful while transferring the answers and double-check what you are marking as correct.
