This article is an in-detail guide to check for IELTS exam results and various questions that arise in the head of a candidate.
Just calculate the average score of all the scores obtained in the four sections of IELTS namely Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. To calculate the mean of all four sections just sum up the score of each section and divide it by 4. If the average value is obtained in decimal then it is rounded off to the nearest whole number. For instance, if the average score is 6.25 then it is rounded off to 6.5 and if the average IELTS score is 6.75 then is rounded off to an overall 7 band score as it is the nearest whole number to 6.75. In this way, the final IELTS band score is obtained.

Candidates will receive a Test Report Form (TRF) that will report a score for each of the four skills (listening, reading, writing, and speaking), as well as an overall band score. Also, it is important to keep the copy of the Test Report Form safe as candidates won’t receive another one. The students will receive a TRF scorecard through Courier/ Speed post. Students get the tracking number through SMS once it is out for delivery. It can take up to 10 days to receive the scores from the date of the declaration of the result.
While registering for the IELTS exam, students have the option to send the Score Report up to five colleges/universities for free. Also, students can also request for more Score Reports other than the five free Score Reports which they booked at the time of registration. For this, students need to fill the Additional Test Report Form and give proper addresses of the colleges/universities where they want to apply. The Additional Test Reports will be sent directly to the colleges or universities asked by the candidate.
Candidates can also send the additional score reports anytime during the validity of the test report. The score reports can be transmitted through various modes-
1. Electronic Mode- The candidates who have chosen the electronic mode are charged 250 INR per university for sending results to universities/institutions electronically.
2. International Courier- In this mode, the additional score report is delivered via courier to the address of desired university or institution. It takes upto 4 days to deliver the score report and candidates have to pay 1250 INR for each address. The tracking number is shared with the candidates through SMS.
3. By Post- It takes approximately two weeks to deliver the score report to the desired address and candidates have to pay 250 INR for each address. The tracking number is not shared in this service.
A candidate can give as many attempts as he/she wants to crack the IELTS exam with the desired score. There is no such limit that is decided by IELTS exam conducting bodies. However, fees are chargeable for every attempt.
The IELTS exam results are valid for two years from the day your result got declared.
The IELTS cut-off score varies from college to college depending upon the eligibility criteria of the university or institute, not all universities want candidates to qualify for the IELTS exam for admission. The scores are marked on a scale of 0-9 and as per the required score of desired university or institution the student will get admission. Your overall score really matters if you are intended to get admission to your desired university or take up a job in another country.
In case you are not happy with your IELTS overall score then you are allowed to raise Enquiry on Result (EoR) within the 6 weeks of the test date. You can ask for remarking all sections of your IELTS exam or for a single particular section depending upon your requirement. For this, download the EoR form, submit your original TRF and then pay enquiry fee. The process of remarketing your IELTS score will take upto 6-8 weeks after raising an enquiry.
If your result ends up raising your score upwards, the candidate will receive a full refund of the enquiry fees given and a new TRF. You can apply for five extra copies of the TRF to be sent to receiving college/universities free of charge. But if your result remained unchanged then no refund will be issued.
